Wacky Wednesday

Kia ora bloggers, today on Wednesday at Paihia School it is “wacky Wednesday”. We dressed up and got all wacky. I got dressed in overalls and made them inside out and backwards, I also sprayed my hair with spray paint for hair. My favorite part was dressing up wacky and seeing everyone else dressed up. The person who I think dressed the best was Hudson or should I say Rahudzel because he dressed up as Rapunzel, it was funny and pretty. It was really fun and I liked seeing everyone dressed up wacky.

Have you ever done wacky Wednesday at your school?

Attributing Images

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about attributing images because it is breaking copyright laws when you take other peoples images but there are some that you can use for free. I learned how to get photos for free by using the creative commons usage rights on Google.  In the future I will use the photos for free using the creative commons usage rights on Google. I enjoyed learning about how to use images online because now I can use the creative commons licence type to use free images.

Do you use the creative commons usage rights on Google?

The Most Brilliant Science Ever

On Monday the 9th of August Nanogirl came to our school to share her science with everyone.

I liked the last one when she used a leaf blower and a toilet paper roll and the toilet paper went everywhere. I also liked the one when she lit a fire on her hand because the flame was really big and it was Incredible.

After she finished the last experiment she told us to never give up and if something goes wrong during our science experiment ether start over or keep going forward and that is what I learnt. In the future I will always try to never give up and try my hardest at doing things that are difficult.

Have you ever met a scientist before?

Learning About Magnificent Science

In Te Ngahere we had been working on our science projects, we all did very well.

Our experiment was about which bread would last the longest and our aim was to find out which type of bread out of Vogel, Tip Top, Essentials and Molenberg stays the freshest the longest.

I learnt that when you put bread in a dry atmosphere the bread goes stale and when you put the bread in a moist atmosphere the bread goes mouldy. I also learnt how to seat out the scientific method and I learnt what variables are too, the variable I learnt was an independent variable that is when you only change one thing in your experiment. The thing that I found difficult was that my group was not at school every day to help me but I did manage to complete it and that our bread only got very very stale not mouldy.

The thing that I might do differently next time is that I will be in a group that comes to school every day.

The hoe that I used while I was working on my science project were Tu Maia(Resilience) and Kaha(Being Strong) because even when it was really hard I never gave up.

Do you know what a controlled variables are?

Sharing my Learning About the Scientific Method

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. The scientific method is the steps to do in science, The first step is ask a question, step two gather information and observe, step three make a hypothesis(guess the answer),  experiment and test our hypothesis, analyze your test results, modify your hypothesis (if necessary), present a conclusion and Retest (often done by other scientists). This term we have been learning about science and in term three we will be doing a science experiment. When I do a science project in the future I will use the scientific method and my science project would be correct. In my scientific method I think the thing that I did well is I put the steps in the right order. Next time I think I could make my steps in the scientific method tidier and instead of Arrows pointing everywhere.

The Greatest Marble Challenge Ever

Kia ora, In Te Ngahere we had a Marble Challenge. We did this to prepare for our science fair and to follow the scientific method. We had to plan what our ramp would look like and what we would use to build it. My group was Mikaira and Amber we made a cardboard ramp with some small blocks that we stuck together. We had to get the marble to 110cm to get five points. I think what we could have done differently was made the instructions say how to put our ramp together or stick the blocks to our ramp. I think we could also make our angle higher so the marble could go further. The thing that I think we did well was that we used a glue gun to stick the cardboard together and that didn’t work so we looked around and every one was using tape so we used tape and that worked. We got eleven points. Our teacher made a measurement ruler and on it was one score, two score, three score, four score and the fifth score was the smallest. We had instructions that the other team had to follow our instruction said put the marble on the scribbles then gently let it go.

Have you ever done a marble challenge before?

Building Extremely Hard Catapults

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about kinetic energy and potential energy. Potential energy is when energy is stored up inside of something.  For Example: If you have a bowling ball and push it down a slide its called Potential energy. Kinetic energy is when something is moving, For Example if you have a slingshot and a ball and you let go of the slingshot the ball will fly and that is called kinetic energy.

With kinetic energy and potential energy we built catapults.

We did this challenge to see if we could follow instructions work together collaborate and communicate.

I found it challenging to communicate to my group and get ideas from my group to make our catapult better. I think we found it easy to build our catapult out of thin bamboo sticks and rubber bands the rubber bands tied the bamboo sticks together. Next time I think we will try to communicate to each other and make sure everyone has a job.

Have you ever made a catapult before?

Following Instructions Test

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about following instructions.

My teacher said that we were going to have a reading test. She gave my class a piece of paper with instructions on it but we were not allowed to flip the
piece of paper over until she put the timer on. We only had four minutes to fill out the paper but the teacher gave us more time. We flipped the piece of paper over and there were instructions that we had to follow.

We had a piece of paper with twenty three questions to fill out. The first question said read every question carefully but I thought of reading every questions while I answered the questions. When I got to the end I read the twenty third question and It said “Now that you have finished reading everything carefully, do only sentences one and two! Then draw quietly on the back of this paper while you wait for everyone else to finish”. I felt annoyed that I didn’t follow the instructions.

Our teacher  gave us the piece of paper because we had to learn how to read instructions carefully.

In the future I think that I would try to read all of the instructions carefully and follow them.

Do you think that you can follow instructions carefully?

Have You Heard About Smart Surfing Before?

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about something called Smart Surfing. Smart Surfing is learning about how to search questions on Google by only using keywords. I learnt how to search by using keywords in my sentence. I also learnt that if you don’t use keywords it doesn't come up with what you are mainly looking for. For example: If I were to ask Google "what do spiders eat" Google will give me every page that says what or do. The keywords would be spiders and eat, so the whole question would be spiders eat? since "spiders eat" doesn't make sense you can change the word eat to diet so it is "spiders diet". Those are the main keywords so Google will give you all the pages that have spiders and diet. It will be better because it is narrowing it down to more information that is most likely what you are looking for. This is better to do because if you have the word “what” in your sentence, Google  finds all of the pages that start with “what”.  In the future I will now use keywords in my questions  to search on Google and it will come up with the right answers.

In the future will you use keywords when you search questions on Google?

Draw the Same Taskmaster Game

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to communicate to each other and contribute together.

The teacher made a game for us called task masters we had a drawing that was outside on the window and there were little pictures on the paper, the runners had to go and look at the drawing while the drawers stayed inside. The runners had to tell the drawers what the drawing was so the drawers could draw the pictures. The runners were the only one that could see the drawing so they had to tell the drawer what to draw.

I don’t think that we worked well in my team the first time.  The thing that didn’t work well was that I kept forgetting the drawing that the teacher had drawn on the paper so I had to keep going outside.

It was hard to communicate and we were not allowed to point at the piece of paper to tell where they had to draw on the piece of paper so we had to say the direction for example top right corner.

We changed places so now I was the drawer and the runners were yelling at me to draw the right thing. The thing that worked well was that we had two runners so it was faster so when one came inside to tell me what the drawing was the other one went outside and looked at the drawing. The thing that didn’t work well was that they were rushing me. It was challenging to draw the right thing in the right place.

Have you ever played a activity like this before?

A Terrifying Tsunami Evacuation

On Friday there was a tsunami warning and we had to walk up the hill at the back of our school.

When we got up on the hill I became scared about my sister because she was working on the water and I thought that the tsunami would happen but it didn't. I was worried at school because I thought the tsunami would come to our school when we were there, and I was trying to stay positive and help my friends to stay positive because they were sad and scared.

After a while we noticed that there was a really dark bit in the water and there  was a long line across the water.

My class played a quiz game on our teacher’s phone. We had to answer all the questions that the teacher asked us, and most of them were easy but some were hard.

We stayed up there for about four hours and I was bored and hungry, I also didn't really enjoy it when I was up on the hill.

When we were up on the hill there were very kind people that gave us food and water.

After we were told that we were safe I felt safe and when I was up the hill I felt safe because we were up high.

Have you ever been in a tsunami or had a tsunami warning before?

Check Out This Great Kawa of Care DLO!!!

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about how to look after our Chromebooks

We had to make an animation or a comic.

I learnt that we have to charge our Chromebook with no case on.

I enjoyed making an animation about learning how to take care of my Chromebook, when we made our screencastify it was hard because there were so many noises in the background but we managed to finished it, next time I might try to do a comic.

Do you know how to look after your Chromebook?

Mind Blowing Facts About Roy Lichtenstein

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Roy Lichtenstein and his art.
We had to read some facts about Roy Lichtenstein and found the important ones and put them on a slide then we had to product what techniques we would use for our self portrait.
Roy Lichtenstein was a famous artist in the 50s-60s
I enjoyed writing down my techniques to use in my self portrait, It was hard to find important facts about Roy Lichtenstein, Next time I might use  bright colours in my self portrait.
Have you ever seen a piece of art that Roy Lichtenstein has made?
